What is ENC Mesh?

We are an informal collective of radio enthusiasts, emergency-preparedness advocates, and makers deploying low-power node transceivers across Eastern NC. By utilizing decentralized mesh protocols, devices automatically hook into one another to route messages seamlessly.

Whether you are looking to secure emergency communications for your family during hurricane season, or just enjoy experimenting with decentralized packet radio technology, ENC Mesh and the Meshcore API ecosystem provide the baseline regional infrastructure.

Grid Resilient

No cell towers, no fiber, no ISPs required. Nodes can be solar-powered or run on internal batteries.

Meshcore Indexing

Nodes communicate peer-to-peer while reporting data to decentralized indexes for visual mapping.

RF propagation in Eastern North Carolina offers great potential due to flat terrain, but heavy pine canopies pose challenges. We emphasize high-elevation node installations (rooftops, chimneys, and hobby towers).

The interactive portal on the right utilizes the Meshcore Map instance. You can navigate the view to inspect active telemetry paths and look for nodes across New Bern, Greenville, and Jacksonville.

Pick up a compatible LoRa transceiver module. Popular choices include the LilyGO T-Beam, Heltec V3, or RAK Wireless blocks. Ensure it operates at 915 MHz for US standards.

Flash & App Sync

Flash the open firmware to your device. Use your smartphone companion app via Bluetooth to send off-grid messages, connect telemetry sensors, and monitor packets.

Elevation & Mapping

To optimize your local reach across Eastern NC, elevate your antenna as high as safely possible. Enable telemetry options to report your node statistics directly to the Meshcore index map.
